★★★★★ The Code Book, by Simon Singh

A detailed history of cryptography, the various algorithms for encrypting data and techniques for decrypting messages. Considering the complexity, the book is very easy to read and hard to put down. There are a few puzzles at the back of the book for you to solve - some of them will require much more computing power than your desktop computer offers.

★★★★ Asimov on Numbers, by Isaac Asimov

It will be difficult to find a book that makes mathematics and numbers more entertaining than this one. Asimov uses stories, metaphors and comparisons to explain different numerical ideas. He explains how numbers and math have evolved over the ages, and states that perhaps math is simpler than it was before and it could be even simpler, if we agreed to discard outdated concepts like Roman numerals, and the English measurement system. Asimov also provides us insight into traditions, such as why Easter falls on a different date every year.

★★★★ Secrets of Mental Math, by Arthur Benjamin

Great book for learning how to do mathematics in your head instead of on paper. You can learn how to add and subtract quickly and learn how to add a set of many numbers and multiply large numbers very easily. The book also features many mathematical shortcuts. It is a fun book, and if you are a student or teacher, you will find this tremendously useful in your daily life.

★★★ Fermat's Enigma, by Simon Singh

It starts off well, but becomes too technical and less explanatory at the end. This may be a problem with the nature of the complex proof, but even so, it makes the end less satisfying than it could have.

★★★ Logic Made Easy, by Deborah Bennett

Offers a detailed overview of the laws of logic and common pitfalls. I wouldn't say it is logic "made easy" (that would have required better presentation of the material), but overall, the book presents good concepts and interesting examples.
