★★★★★ Innovation and Entrepreneurship, by Peter Drucker

Long before the Innovator's Dilemma was written, here is Drucker with the same insights about why innovation must be treated as a special child by management, and the challenges faced by it in existing corporations. This review was written after I read the book for the second time (I had read it previously a few years back), and it is incredible how the contents seem more meaningful and relevant on the second reading.

★★★★ Managing in the Next Society, by Peter Drucker

Peter Drucker tries to predict the future of businesses in the next century. Increasing globalization and technological advances bring challenges and opportunities. There is an increasing role for non-governmental organizations in addressing some of the pressing problems of our society. Drucker also examines how different cultures such as Japanese are handling these new challenges.

★★★★ Managing in Turbulent Times, by Peter Drucker

Drucker wrote this book in the 1980's, at a time of political and social upheaval in the United States and abroad. He foresaw many of the changes happening in the workforce as well as the family, and how that would affect the typical corporation. He also discusses the demographic changes in the future that would alter the labor market. As far as the predictions go, Drucker is mostly right about the US markets, but falters when he talks about the dismemberment of nations like Spain and Canada. And who knew that most Communist regimes would go out of business before the end of the decade.

Though several years have passed since the publication of this book, the fundamental outlook of this book remains relevant. Managers must look outside of their organization and society to understand events and trends that would affect their organizations. They should prepare or take action to exploit these turbulences instead of being knocked around by them. Like Drucker, we cannot be entirely sure of the exact shape of the final state of affairs that events would lead to, but we can monitor them and be at the forefront of using them to our advantage.

★★★★ The Essential Druker, by Peter Drucker

Reading Drucker never stops to amaze me. This book by the Father of Management contains several of his articles from various books and writings. It is incredible how the thoughts in these essays, written long ago, continue to be relevant in today's information age. Drucker's analysis of the roles and activities of the "knowledge worker" is spot on.
